First Nations Relations provides advice and specialized knowledge to provincial and federal departments, municipal governments and industry; and participates in cross-ministry strategies affecting Aboriginal people. These activities serve to establish effective relationships, legislation, policies and initiatives that contribute to strong and vibrant Aboriginal communities and people.
The First Nations Relations branch is responsible for:

The historic Protocol Agreement on Government to Government Relations.

The First Nations Development Fund supporting First Nations economic, social and community development projects.

Helping to facilitate the collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing Aboriginal education in the province.

Working with other provincial ministries and stakeholders to increase Aboriginal participation in Alberta’s workforce and economy.

Working with other levels of governments and organizations to adress the needs of urban Aboriginal people in Alberta.

Providing support to the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association and each of the Friendship Centres located throughout the province.

Supporting National Aboriginal Day events that help promote the tremendous contributions made by Aboriginal people in Alberta.
