Aboriginal Economic Partnerships

Strengthening Aboriginal Participation in the Economy
Aboriginal Economic Partnerships branch supports Aboriginal economic development by facilitating economic partnerships among Aboriginal communities, industry, governments and other stakeholders.

The First Nations Economic Partnerships Initiative was the first program of its kind in Canada and in 2010 was awarded national “Innovative Management Award” by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada. Together Alberta Intergovernmental, International and Aboriginal Relations and Human Services (Employment and Immigration) committed $4.95 million to facilitate new partnerships and support entrepreneurs. Increasing Aboriginal participation in the province’s economy is a priority for the Government of Alberta.

Aboriginal Economic Partnerships' economic development portfolio has a program that includes:

  • profiling Aboriginal economic development success stories;
  • continued support for community engagement; and
  • engaging young entrepreneurs in Aboriginal economic development initiatives.

Results of these and related activities can be found in the Aboriginal Economic Partnerships Annual Results Reports.
