Consultation Guidelines — An Update

Alberta released its revised First Nations Consultation Guidelines on Land Management and Resource Development on November 14, 2007. The original Guidelines were first released on September 1, 2006. The revised Guidelines are the product of qualitative and constructive feedback from Alberta’s First Nations partners and Industry stakeholders.

Guidelines Training and Information Sessions

Alberta is continuing to carry out a broad-based training strategy for government consultation staff as part of efforts to improve the First Nations consultation process. The strategy is aimed at increasing clarity and consistency in decision-making for all staff involved in implementing Alberta's First Nations Consultation Guidelines. Staff training sessions have been conducted since the Guidelines were first released in September 2006 and will continue as Alberta’s First Nations consultation process evolves.
