The Lubicon Lake Nation’s leadership dispute has led to uncertainty regarding who represents Lubicon Lake members as Chief. Jurisdiction to resolve the Lubicon Lake Nation's leadership challenges rests with the Government of Canada. The Government of Alberta (GoA) remains committed to ensuring adequate and meaningful consultation occurs with the Lubicon Lake Nation during this situation – and has developed an interim notification and directive for all consultation on land management and resource development activities with the First Nation. This interim approach has been communicated to the First Nation and to industry, and will remain in effect until Lubicon Lake Nation's internal governance challenges are resolved to the satisfaction of the Government of Canada.
